All about Lightspeed Kounta Receipt Printers

When connection a receipt printer to Lightspeed Kounta (Hospitality) using an iPad, there are two interface options available. This includes Ethernet & Bluetooth. You can also choose between a Thermal Printer or Dot Matrix. A Thermal Printer is the most common but in the kitchen, many choose a Dot Matrix printer as it uses a plain paper (and multi-ply paper for duplicate copies) which is great if you are putting dockets under heat lamps or other hot areas.

The Ethernet (LAN) receipt printers are cabled into your wireless router or modem via networking cable which is generally blue but can be other colours. The iPad then connects to the router via WiFi and the printers can be seen on the network. This is the most reliable connection type and also allows you to have a number of different printers connected at the same time with multiple iPad (iOS) devices. 

An example of this would be having a printer for receipt, one for drinks and another for the kitchen. All would be connected individually from each printer back to the wireless router forming an internal hub. When all of your iPad devices are connected to the single router, you are able to print to every printer which is a perfect solution for a Cafe or Restaurant. Each item can be assigned to be printed to a specific printer.

The Bluetooth (Wireless) receipt printer pairs directly to your iPad which is fine for a single station just printing receipts but the downside to this is that you can only pair one device to this printer. If you have two iPad's, you would require a Bluetooth printer for each iPad. The rule is that you can have multiple Bluetooth receipt printers connecting to one device but you can't have multiple devices pairing to a single Bluetooth printer.
